At this point it was evident that the base plate was in poor condition. As the model was in such excellent condition, I decided to offer the customer an exchange for a replacement base plate in good condition off of one of my restoration projects. He accepted and I am in the process of refurbishing it.
This is a refurbish I am doing for a customer in Canada. Watch along as I add Pictures of the project to the page. If you have questions please ask. It is now on its way back to the customer. Updated April 17 2008

Dinky, Lesney King Size and Corgi Diecast Restorations Undertaken. The Diecast Models I restore and the Code 3’s I build all undergo a complete process before they are returned to their owners or listed on EBay. They are stripped back to bare metal using Caustic Soda or Paint Stripper before one or more coats of primer and then sanding is done. Primer is then re-sprayed and lightly sanded before the finish coats are applied. As many as five coats go on my models to get the required results. Any detailing is then done and a light coat of clear is placed on top. Next are the decals (if applicable) and then another light coat of clear. Drying time varies and so does the method of drying (Sunlight, spotlights or ovens). This is then coated with a final thicker layer of clear to seal the models finish and produce a deep glossy shine. Some models will have been painted in matt finish as this was the original finish on that particular model. I always try to use authentic replacement parts like new tires, decals and small fitted objects. Most of the models I restore are in very play worn condition and really need to be restored. I also partially restore some vehicles (like trucks and Vans) when parts are still in good condition but some are badly worn. All models receive many hours of work before I am satisfied with the result and will place it up for auction or return to the owner so be patient when having a restoration project done. I hope you like the work I do as I put a lot into the diecast I restore or rebuild. Email me for a quote. Diecast Restoration, a constant rebuilding of the imagination
